Care Philosophy: The physicians at Houston Heart Rhythm pride themselves as being advocates for patient needs and have established their practice as an example of the highest quality arrhythmia care available. Our mission is to develop strong patient-doctor clinical relationships to be able to deliver the best possible personalized care. Atrial fibrillation is a type of arrhythmia or irregular heartbeat that affects the upper chambers of the heart. Instead of beating in a coordinated and regular pattern, the atria quiver and flutter rapidly and chaotically. This can cause blood to pool and form clots in the atria due to which risk of stroke or heart failure can increase. AFib can be persistent or permanent (ongoing) but it can also be paroxysmal or it can be triggered by certain factors such as stress, alcohol, caffeine, or heart disease. Risk factors for developing it include age (especially over 65 is a concern), high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes, smoking, or if theres any family history
