Biography: Dr. Tochukwu Onyekwelu is a general surgeon with a background in robotic surgery and a broad spectrum of surgical diseases and trauma. He received his Doctor of Medicine from the Medical University of South Carolina, and subsequently completed a post-doctoral residency in general surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern/Parkland. Prior to getting his MD, Dr. Onyekwelu earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing with honors from South Carolina State University. Dr. Onyekwelu is passionate about collaborative care with an emphasis on shared decision making.

Care Philosophy: We see patients from newborns to the very elderly. We promote wellness through encouragement towards a healthy lifestyle. We will often ask patients to come in annually for a complete exam. This is when we review whether all the cancer screens are up to date and assess the patient for any chronic disease. We routinely manage diabetes, high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol, as well as a myriad of other conditions. It is never the same on a given day in our office!

Care Philosophy: I was a patient long before I was a doctor and started my medical career relatively late in life and as such, I feel it is my responsibility to help patients navigate through the confusing and often conflicting world of medical advice and help them remain healthy and happy. It is my conviction that the patient always remain part of the medical decision making process and that every treatment plan be tailored to and for the specific patient.
