Care Philosophy: After 25 years in medicine, my philosophy has not changed. My primary concern is the overall health and well-being of my patients. In our office, we have always tried to provide the best service possible, including availability, standard of care practices, and the genuine concern for our patients. I have always enjoyed taking care of the more complex medical problems and have established my reputation based on my ability to keep the most sick patients in the community as healthy as possible.

Biography: Dr. Tochukwu Onyekwelu is a general surgeon with a background in robotic surgery and a broad spectrum of surgical diseases and trauma. He received his Doctor of Medicine from the Medical University of South Carolina, and subsequently completed a post-doctoral residency in general surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern/Parkland. Prior to getting his MD, Dr. Onyekwelu earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing with honors from South Carolina State University. Dr. Onyekwelu is passionate about collaborative care with an emphasis on shared decision making.

Care Philosophy: I was a patient long before I was a doctor and started my medical career relatively late in life and as such, I feel it is my responsibility to help patients navigate through the confusing and often conflicting world of medical advice and help them remain healthy and happy. It is my conviction that the patient always remain part of the medical decision making process and that every treatment plan be tailored to and for the specific patient.
