Biography: Margaret T Lee, MD cares for children with blood disorders, such as anemias (sickle cell anemia, thalassemia, and iron deficiency), bleeding (including idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura [ITP], hemophilia, and von Willebrand disease), and clotting disorders (such as deep vein thrombosis). Dr. Lee's area of interest is a rare group of diseases called vascular anomalies. There is relatively little known about these disorders, and the care of patients with vascular anomalies requires a multidisciplinary group of physicians from several specialties (dermatology, surgery, cardiology, neurology, and hematology/oncology)-all of whom are available at NewYork-Presbyterian/Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital. Hematologists play a role in the medical treatment of vascular tumors and the supportive care of clotting and bleeding complications that are associated with some types of vascular malformations. Dr. Lee is an active participant in the Vascular Anomalies Group at NYP/Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital, as well as the Vascular Anomalies Special Interest Group of the American Society of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, which is looking at novel therapies for vascular anomalies and their complications.

Biography: Dr. Shipra Kaicker is an Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at Weill Cornell Medicine and Associate Attending Pediatrician at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. Her clinical areas of interest are pediatric hematology, platelet disorders, immune cytopenias, anemias, sickle cell disease and bone marrow failure syndromes. She is board certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Hematology-Oncology. Dr. Kaicker received her M.B.B.S. degree at Lady Hardinge Medical College at the University of Delhi, New Delhi, India. She completed her M.D. and Pediatric Residency at Maulana Azad Medical College, also at the University of New Delhi, where she also served as Senior Registrar (Chief Resident) in Pediatrics. Dr. Kaicker expanded her training in New York City, where she completed a Post-Doctoral Clinical Fellowship and Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship, both in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology, at Columbia University Medical Center, and an additional Pediatric Residency at Saint Vincent's Medical Center. Dr. Kaicker is a clinical researcher and is participating in clinical trials for childhood immune thrombocytopenia as part of ICON ( ITP Consortium of North America) and collaborating with basic science researchers to identify biomarkers in childhood ITP

Biography: My expertise is in pediatric hematology and oncology, with a particular focus on leukemias and lymphomas, or cancers of the blood, bone marrow, or lymph nodes. I am especially interested in chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). Because children are growing and developing, CML treatment and management present unique challengesthe same treatment options that work best for grown-ups may not be the right strategies for kids. I treat children, adolescents, and young adults. I love working with this population and developing long-lasting relationships with my young patients. I am especially passionate about delivering personalized care to each of thembecause no two kids are the same. Diseases like leukemia and lymphoma are challenging for anyone, but they can be especially hard on children. Symptoms like fatigue and joint pain can make it hard to move, play, and act like a kid, and some treatments can have severe side effects. I work to manage children's symptoms and choose the right treatments for their disease, based on their individual needs. Helping these children is the most satisfying goal I can imagine. My research revolves around the treatment of pediatric leukemias and lymphomas. I continue to explore the impact of current treatments, and I collaborate with basic science researchers to translate their breakthroughs into new drug development. I have also been involved in cancer survivorship research. As a professor and the section head of pediatric oncology, I am deeply committed to educating and mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows and helping to prepare the next generation of leaders in pediatric hematology/oncology.

I find it a privilege to be able to help families deal with their children's complex medical issues. Biography: Diane George, MD cares for children and adolescents undergoing stem cell transplantation as a treatment for cancer (particularly leukemia and lymphoma), noncancerous blood disorders (like sickle cell anemia), and immunodeficiencies. She specializes in transplantation for patients who don't have a related bone marrow donor, and also takes care of patients undergoing autologous stem cell transplantation for solid tumors. Dr. George was originally attracted to the field of pediatric oncology because she wanted to take on the challenge of fighting pediatric cancer, and stem cell transplantation offers the ultimate cure in select patients. It is a complex medical field, and Dr. George enjoys being able to take care of children with complex medical conditions. Dr. George also conducts clinical research. She is currently evaluating a procedure called "CD34-selected stem cell transplantation" to remove T-cells from donor bone marrow. This approach reduces the risk of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) - a potential complication of bone marrow transplantation in which T-cells from the donor attack the tissue of the recipient. This approach benefits patients who do not have a well-matched family donor, and it could potentially make bone marrow transplantation an option for more patients. Dr. George is also interested in studying how a patient's immune system rebuilds itself after CD34-selected stem cell transplantation. Biography: Prakash Satwani, MD specializes in the use of bone marrow transplantation to treat children and adolescents with leukemia, lymphoma, or hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis. Bone marrow transplantation is a dynamic, intriguing field with multiple complex issues. Dr. Satwani has always enjoyed solving puzzles and is attracted to the intellectual challenge of caring for patients whose lives may be saved or extended with bone marrow transplantation. Dr. Satwani is also inspired and motivated by the long-lasting and rich relationships formed with patients and their families, and often keeps in touch with families long after their child's treatment has been completed. Dr. Satwani teaches medical students, residents, fellows, nurses, and nurse practitioners about bone marrow transplantation. It's important to educate people so they can learn the latest advances and provide the best care possible for patients. To continue to achieve those advances, Dr. Satwani conducts clinical research in reducing the life-threatening complications related to transplantation, such as infections and graft-versus-host disease. Dr. Satwani and colleagues also evaluate reduced-intensity bone marrow transplantation preparative regimens, which use lower doses of chemotherapy with the hope of decreasing short-term and long-term complications without compromising the effectiveness of treatment.

Biography: Dr. John Levine, MD is an Oncology Specialist who practices in New York, NY. He is 62 years old and has been practicing for 36 years. Dr. John Levine, MD is affiliated with Mount Sinai Hospital.

Biography: Dr. Lisa Roth is an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Pediatrics and Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine. She is also the Director of the Adolescent and Young Adult Lymphoma Program at Weill Cornell Medicine/New York Presbyterian Hospital. Dr. Roth has been named the Charles, Lillian, and Betty Neuwirth Clinical Scholar in Pediatric Oncology. Dr. Roth completed her undergraduate work at Duke University. Dr. Roth conducted her residency at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell and her fellowship in pediatric hematology/oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and NewYork-Presbyterian where she served as chief fellow. She is a member of the Children's Oncology Group and an active participant in Hodgkin lymphoma and non-Hodgkin lymphoma clinical trials. She is also a member of the Weill Cornell Center for Lymphoma, a group which is internationally recognized for it's leadership in the treatment of patients with lymphoma. Dr. Roth's research focuses on identifying new treatments for children with lymphoma. She is particularly interested identifying novel targeted therapies. Targeted therapies may be less toxic than conventional chemotherapy and may be able to rescue those patients with chemotherapy-resistant disease. Biography: Monica Bhatia, MD specializes in the care of children with noncancerous blood disorders who may benefit from bone marrow transplantation, especially sickle cell anemia. She and her colleagues are working to reduce the toxicity (side effects) and complications of this treatment without compromising its effectiveness, and to make it available to more patients. The field of pediatric hematology brings with it many intellectual challenges, and bone marrow transplantation in particular is especially dynamic. Dr. Bhatia has the opportunity to provide care for the sickest children, potentially curing their disease. She builds strong relationships with her patients and their families that last for years. It is inspiring for her to see young patients grow up to lead healthy, productive lives. NewYork-Presbyterian/Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital has a robust program for bone marrow transplantation for sickle cell anemia - the only cure for this disease. Dr. Bhatia and her team have witnessed remarkable results among children who are cured with bone marrow transplantation and spared from the potentially life-threatening complications of sickle cell disease. Yet despite the advances made, only 15 percent of patients with sickle cell disease have a matched sibling bone marrow donor. Therefore, Dr. Bhatia and her team conduct research to evaluate a procedure called "CD34-selected stem cell transplantation" to remove T-cells from donor bone marrow for patients without a matched sibling donor. This approach reduces the risk of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), a potential complication of bone marrow transplantation in which T-cells from the donor attack the tissue of the recipient. This approach to harnessing stem cells could potentially make bone marrow transplantation a safer, effective option for many patients who are seeking a cure for sickle cell disease. Dr. Bhatia and her colleagues are currently assessing reduced-intensity transplantation, which uses lower doses of chemotherapy to decrease the risk of side effects and long-term complications without lowering the effectiveness of treatment. She is also interested in looking for ways to further improve the quality of life of patients who have had a bone marrow transplant in addition to fertility preservation.

Dr. Rosenzweig completed her undergraduate work at Emory University. She received her medical degree from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
