Best Surgeon on East Coast
I feel grateful and privileged that I was able to have Dr. Habal for my surgeon.Along with the Great Surgeon above I am cancer free. No pain after lumpectomy, and he rebuilt the breast area so that it looks absolutely untouched by cancer. Amazing results!! Dr. Habal is an extremely skilled and caring surgeon.

Stay away from this surgeon
I reluctantly went with this surgeon for breast cancer when I couldn't get in anywhere else in the middle of the pandemic during the holidays. I regret every single day that I did not listen to my gut instinct and walk out that first appointment when it was abundantly clear he had never read my chart. I am left scarred, physically and emotionally, from the entire experience with this physician. Nerve damage, limited options now for reconstruction, extensive surgery in a day surgical center(?!), doesn't follow guidelines, rude staff, 3+ hour wait for appointments... the list is long. He got super nasty when I had surgical complications and refused to treat it or the pain it caused. Not getting the right treatment initially has cut years off my life. If you are diagnosed with breast cancer: take your time and find the right care team. Trust your instinct. Be your own advocate. Don't be afraid to walk out, demand better. Where you start your treatment journey impacts your outcome.

Dr Habal is a great surgeon. He removed cancer from my breast and I felt no pain afterwards and healing fast. I recently visited him to confirm that I didn't have cancer in other breast. He is always compassionate, kind, and does not rush me. I love him.

I felt like I was a breast and not a person. He would not listen to my concerns or what I, personally, needed.

I cannot say enough about the care and treatment I received from Dr. Habal. I trusted him with my life, and I would do it again if I needed to. Sometimes, there is a wait. I am ok with that, because in the next room, someone may be receiving a devastating diagnosis and he is taking the time to explain and listen, as he did with me.

In the beginning, he was generally good, though he refused to make a recommendation for my surgical procedure; always seemed in a hurry; & never discussed my official cancer stage (the nurse finally provided the information). Unfortunately, 4-years later, the wait-times suddenly increased when my appts. were moved to afternoons (the office mails letters informing patients of the day/time 4-6 weeks in advance). By Year #5 & after having MULTIPLE appointments with 2-3 HOUR wait-times, I finally pointed-out that this was excessive & a problem. He only made excuses; never apologized; & never admitted that patients deserve respect too, so we mutually "parted ways." There's a reason for the statement about "patient delays" & "patients in crisis" in his exam rooms & the excuse will continue if patients don't complain.... This could be resolved by limiting excessive over-booking; keeping low-risk appts. to 1-2 days/week; partnering with other doctor(s); & respecting patients & their time

I am sure Dr. Habal is a skilled surgeon. However, I cannot recommend him. From my first visit it was clear he is not able or willing to collaborate with his patient. It is his protocol and there is no room for discussion. He is unwilling to prescribe an adequate amount of sedation for diagnostic procedures which only increases anxiety. He seemed quite offended when he learned a second opinion was something I was seeking. I was told his nurse would promptly return my calls. She did not. She relayed her response to a support person on the office effectively stopping any two way communication. Needless to say I'm not using him.

He is the most kind and compassionate and thorough surgeon I have ever met. I was happy to be his patient. Even though he thought the two cysts I had were benign I was persistent in wanting them out and withought hesiatation he and his staff got the ball rolling. The visit in his office was a little long but considering there are women there who are fighting a battle physically and emotionally every person can be considerate with the wait time. he tries take care w/each patient. I love dr Habal

Excellent ! Long wait time but that is because he is the best in the area. As a breast cancer patient, I trusted him. He respects his patients views and surgical decisions in collaboration with his expertise. People come from hours away because he is well respected and has a depth of experience/

My OB/GYN recommended Dr. Habal to me several years ago and I have been going to him yearly since then. He is kind, patient, knowledgeable and empathetic. He has successfully treated a couple of my friends for breast cancer. When you have an appointment, you need to be prepared to wait, but I don't mind. There's a good reason for this. He is a very much in demand physician and he takes his time with his patients. He will answer all your questions, which is more than most doctors do these days.

1). Doesn't schedule appts. 2). At my last visit, I walked-out after waiting for over an hour. Today, I actually saw him, but spent OVER 2.5 hours waiting. Because I had not eaten anything since 7:00 AM (I had an earlier doctor's appointment that included another 2 hour wait on the same day). I asked if I could briefly leave the office and was told that if I left, I would be rescheduled to the "back of the line." 3). I've been much more impressed with the doctors in my "Nonmedical School-Town"

Appears friendly enough but treats you like nothing more than just the next patient he needs to hurry in and out. Never bothered to read my chart which included very important details about my treatment. He then made a major misdiagnosis. Can't warn fellow patients enough to stay away from this man.
