Biography: After graduating magna cum laude from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry/biophysics, Dr. Haqqie graduated from Albany Medical College cum laude. She was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alphahonor society her junior year of medical college. She completed her residencyat Albany Medical College where she was selected to serve as chief resident in her final year and was awarded the Robert Reinecke research award. Dr. Haqqie then went on to complete her fellowship in cornea, cataract, and refractive surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York, New York.Dr. Haqqie was previously the assistant director of the Wills Eye Hospital Emergency Department. During her time at Wills Eye Hospital, she was the recipient of the Residency Advocacy Award in 2021 and 2023. She also received the Exemplary Teacher Award from the national organization, Real World Ophthalmology. Dr. Haqqie has been recognized as a gifted educator and has astrong interest in teaching the next generation of ophthalmologists.Dr. Haqqie is author and co-author of numerous journal articles and national presentations. Her areas of clinical and research interest include ocularsurface disease, cataract surgery, and ocular emergencies.Dr. Haqqie is a diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons, and is an active member of various professional societies. Biography: Dr. Jason Horowitz, Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, joined Columbia in 2011 after a rewarding 25-year experience delivering retinal care to the Waterbury, Connecticut community. A graduate of Harvard College and Yale Medical School, Dr. Horowitz was an ophthalmology resident at Yale before completing a retinal fellowship at Cornell, where he trained under Dr. Stanley Chang. Dr. Horowitz's interests in ophthalmology are wide ranging. He is currently Medical Director of the Residents' Eye Clinic at Harkness, where some of the most complicated and diverse patients in the world are evaluated and treated for an astonishing variety of ocular diseases. In a completely different domain, Dr. Horowitz has assumed the role of performing essential evaluations for retinopathy of prematurity in the infant patients of the world famous neonatal intensive care unit at Columbia's Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital of New York. In yet another realm, Dr. Horowitz manages complex retinal and macular disorders in adults such as retinal detachments and macular pucker. Together with his 36 years of retinal practice experience, Dr. Horowitz employs the full range of cutting-edge medical and surgical modalities in his practice. He particularly values the ability to use the most improved, up-to-date laser, pharmacological, and surgical therapies to successfully prevent (and, in some cases, even correct) profound visual impairment in conditions such as diabetic retinopathy and macular holes or epiretinal membranes.

Biography: Dr. Noga Harizman, MD is a Professor of Ophthalmology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center specializing in glaucoma and cornea. Dr. Harizman is a leader in minimally invasive glaucoma surgery techniques, both as a teacher and practitioner. Prior to joining Columbia, Dr. Harizman was the Director of Glaucoma services at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai, and served as an attending physician and preceptor for resident glaucoma clinics. She is deeply involved in creating the glaucoma surgical curriculum and supervising resident and laser surgical cases. In Columbia University Irving Medical Center, she is the Glaucoma Fellowship program director since 2021. She is also Chief of the Department of Ophthalmology at Harlem Hospital-NYC HHC, where the Columbia Ophthalmology residents rotate twice a year throughout their training. For her outstanding educational leadership, she received the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary Teaching Award in 2011, and he Philip Knapp Memorial Residents Teaching Award at Columbia University Irving Medical Center in 2021. A native New Yorker born to Israeli parents, Dr. Harizman grew up in and was schooled and medically trained in Israel. She is a graduate of Tel Aviv University Medical School. Immediately upon graduating from ophthalmology residency, she began teaching and tutoring medical students on ocular anatomy and disease as a Clinical Instructor in Ophthalmology, at the Sackler Faculty of Medicine at Tel Aviv University. She then completed sequential fellowships in glaucoma and cornea at The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, where she joined the full-time faculty in 2008. In addition to her accolades as a distinguished physician-educator with international experience and expertise, Dr. Harizman is known for being an effective and caring mentor for medical students, residents and fellows. She has maintained the highest professional and ethical standards and, enjoys providing care for her new and long-term patients, all while managing a full family life.

Biography: Aakriti Shukla MD, MSc is an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at CUMC and Attending Ophthalmologist at the New York Presbyterian Hospital. Dr. Shukla is a board-certified ophthalmologist and specializes in the medical and surgical management of glaucoma and cataracts. Her surgical expertise includes minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, traditional glaucoma surgery, glaucoma laser surgery, and cataract surgery.Dr. Shukla completed her undergraduate studies as a Trustee and Renaissance Scholar at the University of Southern California. She received her medical degree at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City, where she was awarded a Doris Duke Clinical Research Fellowship and earned the Edith and Denton McKane Memorial Award for Outstanding Research in Ophthalmology. She completed her training as an ophthalmology resident and served as chief resident at Columbia University's Harkness Eye Institute. She earned a Master of Science degree at Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health in Patient-Oriented Research. She pursued further glaucoma subspecialty training at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. Prior to her appointment at Columbia University, she served as glaucoma faculty at the Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Shukla has published numerous peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and has been invited to speak nationally and internationally on her patient care and research. She serves on the editorial boards of Ophthalmology and Ophthalmology Glaucoma. She is continually inspired by her patients and aims to improve their quality of life while treating their glaucoma.
