Biography: Christopher J. McLeod, M.B., Ch.B., Ph.D., is the Clinical Director for Cardiovascular Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville. In 1994, Robert Sheppard, MD, FACC, FHRS brought to the Heart Institute a new era of expertise by developing the cardiac electrophysiology department and currently serves as director of cardiac electrophysiology & pacing. He developed the first cardiac electrophysiology laboratory in St. Petersburg, FL and specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of heart rhythm disorders. He performed the first catheter ablation and implanted the first cardiac resynchronization therapy defibrillator/pacemaker in St. Petersburg, FL. Dr. Sheppard received his undergraduate degree from S.U.N.Y. at Stony Brook, Stony Brook, N.Y. He obtained his medical degree from New York Medical College - Valhalla, N.Y. and completed his fellowship training in both cardiology and electrophysiology & pacing at Hahnemann University - Philadelphia, Pa. Dr. Sheppard was an assistant professor of medicine at Hahnemann University before moving to Florida and served as clinical assistant professor of medicine at the University of South Florida. He is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular diseases and clinical cardiac electrophysiology. Dr. Sheppard is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the Heart Rhythm Society. He has written many publications for a variety of peer reviewed journals, textbook chapters and pursues his interest in research by participating in numerous previous and current clinical research trials. In 2007, 2009 and 2011 Dr. Sheppard was the only cardiovascular disease specialist in Pinellas County named to the list of America?s Best Doctors.

Biography: Fred Kusumoto, M.D., is an electrophysiologist and the Director of the Heart Rhythm Services Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. His clinical practice focuses on heart rhythm disorders including atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, bradycardia, and ventricular arrhythmias and the treatments for these disorders including ablation, pacemakers, and defibrillators. Dr. Kusumoto's research interests include evaluation of quality of life and healthcare outcomes with electrophysiology procedures, particularly in the elderly and use of implantable cardiac devices. Dr. Kusumoto is actively involved in the teaching of residents and fellows and has received several awards for teaching excellence including the Excellence in Training in the Discipline of Cardiovascular Diseases two years in a row at Mayo Clinic. Dr. Kusumoto has served as the Chair for the 2018 AHA/ACC/HRS Bradycardia Guidelines, 2017 AHA/ACC/HRS Ventricular Arrhythmias Guideline Evidence Review Committee, 2017 HRS Cardiovascular Implantable Electronic Device Lead Management and Extraction Consensus Statement, and the 2014 HRS/ACC/AHA ICD Therapy in Patients who are not included or well represented in the Clinical Trials Consensus Statement. In addition to his clinical and research practices he has written five books on cardiac pathophysiology and cardiac devices and has authored over 100 peer reviewed journal articles including the New England Journal of Medicine and the Journal of the American Medical Association, and is the president of the Florida Chapter of the American College of Cardiology as well as the 2nd vice-president of the Heart Rhythm Society.
